Christian Education

At St. James Christian education is a priority.  The Christian Education committee oversees a wide variety of educational opportunities and activities within the congregation. Preparation for First Communion and Confirmation are areas of specific concern for Christian Education, as well as Youth Ministry, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Adult Education.

Educational Opportunities

Teaching about God and Jesus Christ is one of the main functions of St. James. From regular Sunday sermons to Sunday Church School, passing on the knowledge and wisdom we have gained to our children and neighbors is vital to the life and health of Christ’s Church on Earth.

Sunday School

Sunday School seeks to provide our children with a firm understanding of the Bible (especially the gospels), the history of the Christian Church on Earth, and how the lessons of the church apply to their lives. The Sunday School Curriculum follows the weekly lectionary, which provides continuity from Sunday School into the worship service. Through instruction and special events such as Rally Day and the SCS Christmas Program, the SCS program seeks to engage young minds and help them in their spiritual growth.

SCS is held every Sunday at St. James at 9:40 a.m. September through May for children age three through eighth grade. The program year is divided into two semesters. Teachers may sign up for one or two semesters in the grade of their choice. Please check the sign-up posters in the narthex. We are very grateful for the gift of your time.

St. James offers a staffed nursery for infants to young children. This child-focused area is stocked with toys, books and games to keep children involved while their parents are in church. The nursery is staffed every Sunday during both worship services and Sunday School.

Adult Education

St. James offers adult education most Sundays between services at 9:30am. Frequently the lectionary readings for the day are read and discussed. Other topics have included social services within Lake County, Project Build in South Africa, and a series on the Lord’s Prayer.  Come join us to enhance your spiritual growth and learn more about Scripture and the work of Lutherans and others throughout the world.
